Speech-Language Pathologist

The Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center is recruiting a speech-language pathologist. The desired applicant will provide developmental speech and language evaluations and therapy services for pediatric patients in an outpatient University Hospital rehabilitation setting. The provider will contribute and participate in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team for pediatric patients with dysphagia, speech, language and cognitive deficits.  This a full-time (40 hr/wk) position with faculty/instructor status and benefits at an academic medical center. We offer frequent leadership opportunities and a large collegial network of SLPs in the division. The SLP division is an integral part of the Department of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery in the School of Medicine. Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or higher degree in field
  • ASHA CCC – SLP credentials, (CF’s not considered at this time)
  • Certification/License: Should have or be able to apply for State of Mississippi Healthcare License to Practice Speech-Language Pathology with the Mississippi Department of Health
  • Past experience working with the developmental needs of pediatric population required

Duties and Responsibilities for this position:

  • Ability to provide Evaluation and Interpretation with formal standardized testing for patients with Speech, Language and cognitive deficits.
  • Conduct ongoing speech and language assessment of instructional/therapeutic goals and objectives with evidenced based clinical techniques and appropriate documentation including data collection, plan of care and progress notes
  • Complete EHR documentation in a timely fashion with appropriate clearly documented goals
  • Ability to work with patient populations who need speech, language, cognitive, dyslexia, auditory processing assessments and intervention
  • Participate in divisional activities and faculty meetings in the department as appropriate
  • Provide mentoring for graduate students completing a practicum and sponsorship of SLP observers as needed
  • Ability to train family members or caregivers on issues related to speech, language, swallowing or cognitive and AAC technology
  • Multidisciplinary collaboration and communication with outside SLP therapists, ENT, NP, PA and other physicians

  • Demonstrate professionalism (flexible, problem solver, adaptable, use good judgement, act appropriately and ethically, treat other people with respect and dignity and follow all UMMC requirements)
  • Demonstrate continual assessment of individual program effectiveness and respond professionally to feedback
  • Participate in professional growth activities including committees as requested, lectures and presentations, attendance at national meetings and CEUs, membership in professional organizations, teaching graduate level SLP students and residents and collaborating with other allied health professionals.
